Halal Table — Terms of Use
Effective date: October 5, 2026
Halal Table is a community directory of halal restaurants, markets, bakeries and caterers, operated by Shahreare Khan, an individual based in California, United States ("we", "us"). These terms are a contract between you and us. By creating an account or using the app you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not use Halal Table.

1. What Halal Table is, and what it is not
Halal Table lists food businesses and shows what the community knows about whether they are halal. Every listing carries one of four trust labels:
- Certified — a moderator has seen a certificate from a named certifying body and recorded it.
- Community confirmed — at least three more members have confirmed the place is halal than have disputed it, each saying how they know (they ate there, saw a certificate, were told by staff, and so on).
- Unverified — listed, but nobody has confirmed it yet. Most listings start here.
- Disputed — members disagree about whether the place is halal.
We are not a halal certifier. We do not inspect kitchens, audit suppliers or verify slaughter. Labels reflect documents we have been shown and what members report, both of which can be wrong or out of date. A business can change owners, suppliers or menus at any time. Whether food is halal enough for you is a decision only you can make. Ask the business, look for their certificate, and use your own judgement. We accept no responsibility for that decision.
2. Your account
You must be at least 13 years old to create an account. Give accurate information, keep your password to yourself, and tell us if you think someone else has used your account. One person, one account. You are responsible for everything done with your account.
You can delete your account at any time from the Profile screen. Deleting it removes your profile and the content you posted, as described in the Privacy Policy.
3. Community content
Reviews, ratings, photos, replies, confirmation votes, reports and place submissions that you post are "your content". You own it. By posting it you give us a worldwide, royalty-free licence to store, display, reproduce and moderate it inside Halal Table and anywhere we present Halal Table (for example a screenshot in the App Store listing), for as long as it remains on the service. Your username, level and badges appear next to what you post.
You agree that your content will:
- be your own honest experience or first-hand knowledge — no reviews of places you have not been to, no reviews of your own business or a competitor's, no paid or traded reviews;
- not contain harassment, threats, hate, sexual content, violence, illegal content, or personal information about other people;
- not be spam, advertising, or content copied from elsewhere without the right to post it;
- not make claims about a business's certification that you cannot back up;
- respect the businesses and members you write about. Criticism is welcome. Abuse is not.
Zero tolerance. We remove objectionable content and suspend or terminate the accounts that post it, without notice. Every review, photo, reply and confirmation note has a report control. You can also block another member from your own account; once you do, their reviews, photos, replies and confirmations no longer appear to you. Blocking is a personal filter, not a moderation action — it does not notify the other member and does not affect what anyone else sees. We act on reports within 24 hours, and we may remove content and eject its author while we look into it. We also filter obvious profanity automatically; filtered content is held for review rather than published.
We may edit, hold, remove or refuse any content for any reason, and we may keep a copy where the law requires it or where a report is being investigated.
4. Businesses
If you own or manage a listed business, you can ask us to correct a listing, record your certification, or remove your listing by contacting us. We record certification only when we have seen the certificate. Members' reviews of your business are their own; we do not remove honest reviews at a business's request.
5. Supporting Halal Table
Halal Table is free and shows no advertising. Members who want to help can pay to support it. Support is a gift, not a purchase of a service: it unlocks nothing functional. Supporters receive a badge beside their name, a Founding Supporter badge if they subscribed in the first year, and a Backer badge for a one-time tip. Support has no effect on points, levels, listings, trust labels or moderation.
- Monthly support is an auto-renewable subscription, offered with a monthly or yearly term. Payment is charged to your Apple ID when you confirm. It renews automatically at the same price unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. You can manage or cancel it in your Apple ID settings at any time; the badge stays until the paid period ends.
- One-time support is a single payment. It does not renew.
All payments are processed by Apple. We never see your card details. Prices are shown in the app before you confirm and may change for future periods; we will not change the price of a period you have already paid for. Refunds are handled by Apple under Apple's terms. If Apple issues a refund, the corresponding badge may be removed.
6. What you may not do
Do not interfere with the service, scrape it, probe it for weaknesses, submit false places or reports, impersonate anyone, sell or transfer your account, or use Halal Table for anything unlawful.
7. Our content and third-party data
The Halal Table name, design and code are ours. Map imagery is provided by Apple Maps under Apple's terms. Address lookups use data from OpenStreetMap, © OpenStreetMap contributors, under the Open Database Licence. Business names and addresses are facts; we claim no rights in them.
8. Ending things
You can stop using Halal Table and delete your account whenever you like. We may suspend or terminate your account if you break these terms, if the law requires it, or if we discontinue the service. If we discontinue the service we will give reasonable notice where we can. Sections 1, 3 (the licence for content that remains), 9 and 10 survive termination.
9. Disclaimer and limits on liability
Halal Table is provided "as is". We do not promise that it will be available, accurate, complete or free of errors. To the fullest extent the law allows, we exclude all warranties, and we are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of the service or your reliance on any listing, label or content — including decisions about what to eat. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits liability for fraud or for anything that cannot lawfully be limited.
10. Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California and the United States. Disputes will be brought in the state or federal courts located in California, and you consent to their jurisdiction. If a court finds any part of these terms unenforceable, the rest still applies.
11. Changes
We may update these terms. If a change is significant we will tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect. Continuing to use Halal Table after that means you accept the new terms.
12. Apple
You acknowledge that these terms are between you and us, not Apple, and that Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the app, is not responsible for any claim relating to it, and is a third-party beneficiary of these terms with the right to enforce them against you.
